Yes, I said bacon. Spicy CANDIED bacon.

You may now die. Heaven is here.

But first, a message to you from us, the Ohman family.

These are sky lanterns, inspired by the movie *Tangled*.

Jake and I launched our first ones near midnight on Christmas, not wanting the perfection and magic and glory of the day to end...

Since then, we've been watching for the perfect *still* nights that are needed in order to launch them. Sometimes even when it's PERFECTLY still out, we are unsuccessful at a launch, because a wind comes up and it doesn't burn right (as was the case with our New Years lantern).

It's really really cool, watching them go up up UP and seeing their lights drift farther and farther away...watching them every single second until the lantern burns out and we can no longer follow its path.

Also cool to think of where it will go (and whom it will find!) once it comes down...

We always send lots of Love and Joy along on their journeys...

Now, back to the bacon.

EASY EASY...and UH.MUH.GUH. SOOOOO delicious. This recipe includes a serious warning: you could EASILY consume an entire pound of bacon by yourself if you don't *mindfully* eat this deliciousness.

Spicy Candied Bacon.

1 pound thick-slicked bacon (we prefer applewood smoked)
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
pinch of freshly ground black pepper

(adjust spices according to your preference)

Preheat broiler. Place as much bacon as you can get on a rack on top of a broiler pan.

Mix the brown sugar and spices. Lightly top each strip of bacon with about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of the mixture, patting it down to make sure it adheres well.

Broil for about 3 - 4 minutes, or until crisp and brown, but not burnt. Keep a close eye on it!! It can go from not done to burnt VERY quickly!! (Our photos are of a batch that was a little *less* done than we really like...I would cook it and crisp it up more next time...)

Gently turn each slice over and sprinkle each piece with more of the sugar mixture. Broil for another 3 - 4 minutes, or until cooked to your liking.

YUUUUUMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!

Yes, EnJOY.
